Subadra Celebrates 20th Anniversary

It seems a long time ago that I filled in some forms and posted them off to Companies House to register Subadra. Since then we’ve come a long way: we bought our current offices 12 years ago; were accredited by UKAS 7 years ago; and have worked on projects as far away as Siberia, as remote as St Helena Island and as high profile as Terminal 5 Heathrow.

I am proud of our record of innovation: the first consultancy to use quantitative risk assessment, the first to design and build modular soil/groundwater treatment equipment, the first to use hydrofracturing as a remediation technique, still the only consultancy able to offer a fully integrated service – from initial investigation, through laboratory testing and computer modelling to final remediation – using only our own resources. But much more than that I am proud  that clients we worked with 20 years ago are still our clients today.

So on our 20th anniversary I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has worked with us over the years, whether as client, supplier or as a colleague. To quote Vinni Jones: “It’s been emotional”.

Drilling in the Rain

December saw us out in the middle of Dartmoor drilling water wells. Frail insfrastucture and maintenance issues  had driven one Devonian farmer to drinking water distraction. The water well supplying their property was a shared supply and each year they were expected to contribute to the maintenance of the lengthy, unreliable water pipe. We were commissioned to design and install a new well to serve just their property, together with all associated pipework, electrics, buffer tank etc as a ‘turnkey’ package.

We used modern installation techniques and our Comacchio drill rig, capable of drilling in excess of 100m, to construct a 46m deep borehole lined with a modern PVC screen, a graded filter pack, cattleproof/watertight inspection chamber, ducting into the property, cabling, pipe work, pressure vessel, on demand water flow controls, piped into the existing supply and insultated against the hardest frost. All  works were completed in only four days.

If you’d like to know more about our water well installation service or would like a quote for your own water supply, please call Duncan Eastland (Tel. 01296 739431).

Subadra Complete New Fuel Storage Facility For Millenium Seedbank

This month saw us complete construction of a new fuel storage facility for Royal Botanic Gardens’ Millenium Seed Bank. A key aspect of the project was to ensure that the Seed bank was continuously supplied with fuel (used for heating greenhouses) as any protracted outage would have had dire consequences for the seeds. In the event the switchover was completed without a hitch.

Subadra were responsible for all the civils works (constructing the tank base and retaining walls, installing a dedicated drainage and spill capture system, electrical installation etc. Our partner, Vectec, were responsible for supplying and installing the tanks and associated pipework.
