The Challenge
In November last year, we were notified of the loss of several thousand litres of unleaded fuel from an underground storage tank. Time was critical, and the potential environmental impact was significant.
The Solution
- Within 24 hours, we were on-site with the client and the Environment Agency to assess the situation.
- Within 72 hours, we conducted a shallow ground investigation, confirming that the fuel had migrated to the deep aquifer.
- Just 24 hours later, our rotary drilling rig was on-site to investigate the underlying sandstone and assess the extent of the leak.
The Outcome
Owning and operating our own drilling equipment allowed us to respond rapidly, ensuring no delays. Additionally, with our in-house hydrocarbon laboratory, we completed soil and groundwater testing within 24 hours, providing fast and reliable data.
Our prompt response helped minimise environmental impact and enabled the client to manage the situation effectively. Ongoing assessment work continues, but early intervention was key in controlling the incident.
